DADA

"God and my toothbrush are Dada, and New Yorkers can be Dada too,
if they are not already."
(Tristan Tzara, one of the founders of the Dadaist movement)

the 'front'

"It seems to me that there are two kinds of trickery
: the 'fronts' people assume before one another's eyes,
and the 'front' a writer puts on the face of reality."

Françoise Sagan

FRANCOISE SAGAN
1935-2004
"Of course the illusion of art is to make one believe that great literature is very close to life,
but exactly the opposite is true.
Life is amorphous, literature is formal."

Jean Baudrillard

"The skylines lit up at dead of night,
the air-conditioning systems cooling empty hotels
in the desert,
and artificial light in the middle of day all have something
both demented and admirable about them:
the mindless luxury of a rich civilization,
and yet of a civilization perhaps as scared
to see the lights go out
as was the hunter in his primitive night."

defeatism

nihilism.

distortion

-T. S. Eliot
